The Hamilton County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a contract for services provided by JEO Engineering and Marketing Services and also an agreement with Community and Family Resources.
Board Chairman Wes Sweedler said the engineering contract would help keep the county's rail port project in motion.
"This will keep the us moving forward," he said. The project is located between Webster City and Blairsburg. The county has an option on the land, and a two-year extension has been obtained.
"We needed to have that to feel comfortable as we continue to investigate this project," he said.
Sweedler said the contract, totaling $137,445, is for engineering services, geo-tech work, site work and to gain information to take to the Canadian National railroad to obtain approval for the project.
"I believe this will also help us again for possible grant purposes. ?We haven't run into anything yet that would be make the project not viable," he said. "This would be a nice economic development project for Hamilton County."
The other contract approved was with Community and Family Resources. Services covered by the agreement include the collaboration and assistance with afterschool programming and community programming with youth, substance abuse presentations to the community, development of materials to educate on underage and binge drinking and providing mental health first aid training.
