A former Hamilton County resident will join the staff at the Webster City Medical Clinic late next summer.

Dr. Nikki Ehn, a Kamrar native and graduate of Northeast Hamilton High School, will join the clinic as a family practitioner in August 2012.

Ehn, the daughter of Randy and Kim Schaa, earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Iowa. She is currently doing her residency in family medicine at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She's working at the clinic this month as part of her rotation.

"I have a month - we call it an 'away rotation' - where we can set up what we want," Ehn said. She took the opportunity to see how Webster City clinic and Van Diest Medical Center operate.

"I've been spending a lot of time with Jaymie Burford, the nurse practitioner midwife, so I have been doing lots of women's health," she said. "I like the variety of family practice, but OB and women's health are areas I particularly like."

Ehn and her husband, Matt, and children Caroline, 4, and Henry, 1, live in Ankeny now, but plan to move back to the area once her residency is completed.

"I'm excited to come back to Hamilton County because we will be close to family and that will be great for my kids," she said. "We like the small town atmosphere to raise a family."
