Warming the community

October 26, 2011
The Daily Freeman Journal

As colder weather sets in, most of us have our winter coats and hats at the ready. But there are some in this county who don't have that luxury. There are some who struggle to find warm clothing to wear.

Upper Des Moines Opportunity Inc. has a program each fall, Coats for Kids, which makes sure that youngsters in the area have warm outerwear during Iowa's coldest months. In spite of the generosity of those throughout the county, there are still about 20 children in need of a coat. UDMO?officials have asked local residents continue that generosity to help make sure the last few youngsters in the program stay warm and healthy this winter.

Contact UDMO at 832-6451 or stop at 1440 E. Second St., to get size and age information.

Food donations are needed for the Webster City Food Pantry at UDMO. The organization can also purchase food items from the Food Bank of Iowa for 14 cents a pound with monetary donations.
