Fill the stands for state playoffs

October 24, 2011
The Daily Freeman Journal

The Webster City High School football team (8-1) will face Waverly Shell Rock (7-2) in Webster City on Wednesday night in a Class 3A state playoff first-round game. The Northeast Hamilton High School football team (8-1) will play against Midland (7-3) in Blairsburg in a 8-man state playoff first-round game.

As both teams will be playing on their home fields, there are not too many good reasons why Hamilton County residents shouldn't be out on the bleachers supporting the Lynx and Trojan teams as they fight to get to the second round of districts on Oct. 31.

Each team has put in dedication, time and sweat toward making it to the playoffs. While many of us where out getting a tan in the summer sun, these young men were out at football camps going over drill after drill to perfect their skills out on the field. They have had to balance their athletics with academics, family, friends and, in many cases, a part-time job. These local kids deserve the support of their communities - hearing the cheering in the stands, the drums in the bands and the clapping of hands.

While they are giving their all, let's give our all by going out and applauding their efforts at the Lynx and Trojan fields on Wednesday night.
