A resounding ‘Yes’

August 5, 2011
The Daily Freeman Journal

Voters in Webster City, Ellsworth, Stratford and the unincorporated sections of Hamilton County overwhelming voted in favor of renewing the Local Option Sales and Service Tax Tuesday during the special election. That vote means the measure will be in place throughout all of the communities and rural areas of the county until 2022.

Though the measure failed in November 2010 in those four aforementioned areas, officials throughout the county worked hard this time to make sure voters understood that the LOSST was not new. We applaud all of those voters who realized the benefits of this 1 percent sales tax and the good it can do in the county. The renewal of the LOSST will help ensure that street and road projects will go on, that funds will be available for future sewer and water line repairs, and that each town will be able to help its citizens by providing the needed community improvements.
