Questions differences in gas prices from town to town

August 3, 2011
The Daily Freeman Journal

To the editor:

As a long time resident of Webster City, I have often wondered why our gas is so much higher priced than in other towns around us - with the exception of Fort Dodge which is pretty much the same.

Is it special gas or price gouging? A person could go to Stanhope, Duncombe, Madrid, Ames or Des Moines and find a difference in price of up to 25 cents. So what gives? Also if the price goes down, it takes our town supplier two weeks to lower the price.

So one wonders if it wouldn't be worth it to take a little drive and gas up where the prices are fair. I?do like supporting the local businesses, but I guess if a person has to go elsewhere to gas up,you might just as well do your shopping there too. I think I have lined the pockets of our supplier for long enough.
