To the editor:
The 54th annual Watermelon Day is now history and the new Stanhope Community Center was initiated with the alumni banquet and reunion, the first event to fill the facility with an anticipated overflow crowd. Everything worked out just fine.
The Lions wish to say a big thanks to the many people who volunteered time and effort again to make our community shine. Yes, the weather was a little warm, but wasn't it nice to tour the new library, city office and community room in air conditioned comfort. Thanks to our Library Board and Foundation members for hosting an open house at the new center during the day.
The Lions appreciated all of the assistance received to set up and operate the various rides and games. It is a simple fact that without the help, we couldn't have the kind of celebration we have. And, let's not forget those who baked a pie or two.
Thanks for the financial assistance to the club by the following donors: Fosters Funeral and Cremation Center, Co-Op Telephone Exchange serving Kamrar and Stanhope, Mid Iowa Truck Services, Casady Brothers Implement, Central Iowa Building Supply, Murray McMurray Hatchery, United Co-Op, Webster City Custom Meats, Arnold Motor Supply, Gerber Auto Electric, Motor Inn of Webster City, Tolle Automotive, Peterson Construction, NAPA Auto Parts, Tony's Tire Service, Timm's Automotive, city of Stanhope, and one who preferred to remain anonymous.
Isn't it positively amazing what people working together can accomplish? Thank you to everyone who helped and participated in the day.
Wayne A. Romp,
Stanhope Lions Club
