To the editor:
On behalf of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Hamilton County, I would like to thank local residents for their generosity and support. This year, 16 teams participated in the event, raising approximately $58,391 for the American Cancer Society's programs of research, education, advocacy, and patient services. This outstanding support proves that the people of Hamilton County, and surrounding communities are truly committed to the fight against cancer.
I want to applaud the many cancer survivors who participated in the opening lap and survivor reception. They are the reason we continue the fight, because each year there can be more and more people living full lives following a diagnosis of cancer. Four-hundred forty luminary's lined the track at Webster City High School. A pie auction generated $2,538 along with fun and games that entertained spectators throughout the event.
A special thanks to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of putting the event together. Committee members include:
Lynn Burroughs, chairwoman; Liddy Hora, ACS staff partner; Diane Richardson, food chair; Zona Graves, entertainment; Jess Miller, logistics; Bev Huisman, corporate; Michelle Carpenter, entertainment; Miriam Carlson, survivorship; Pat Nokes, finance; Teresa Huffman, team recruitment; Phil Voge, corporate; Tina Keane, luminary chair; Maddy Miller, entertainment and Patti Fye, food.
