Saturday's Boone Bash River Dash and all of the associated activities are good examples of what can happen when volunteers work together to make an event happen.
Large crowds turned out to watch the canoe and kayak races. The water on the Boone River was a little high, so everything was moved to Briggs Woods. That proved to be a great location for all the events.
Local residents displayed their ingenuity and creativity in the Second Annual Cardboard Regatta. Some were well-engineered sailing vessels and others were lucky to make to the finish line, but all were good sports.
Teams from all over the state took part in the Iowa Games Adventure Race Saturday as well. The event was a great opportunity to showcase the natural beauty, the excellent trails and water resources in our area.
The community picnic and Kids Bash held following the race at West Twin Park had the feel of an old-fashioned community celebration. There were games and activities for children, a free grilled meal, musical entertainment and lots of opportunities to spend time with their neighbors.
Hats off to all who helped plan the celebration and coordinate all of the activities for the Boone Bash River Dash.
