Ball to benefit school

Tickets for ball still available at the school office

Local residents will have a chance to dance the night away while helping to support St. Thomas Aquinas School.

The Friends of St. Thomas Aquinas Ball, "Blossoms for Success," will be held Saturday n the parish center at St. Thomas Church from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and organizers said the event will feature raffles, auctions, food and entertainment.

Those attending the ball, which is the largest fundraiser of the year for the school, will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the big drawing of the night. The grand prize is the choice of either a 2011 Polaris ATV Sportsman 850 EPS from Racing Unlimited or $10,000 in cash. Second prize is a 55-inch LG TV with surround sound and a Blu-ray player and third place is $1,000 in Scrip gift cards. Raffle tickets are available at the church office or at the ball for $50 each or three for $125.

Friends of St. Thomas Ball committee members Mona Everson and Ashley Dinsdale, organize one of the baskets to be auctioned at the event Saturday night. Each class at the school prepared a basket filled with items to be auctioned off to the highest bidders.

Throughout the evening, a silent auction will be held with a variety of items available, organizers said. A live action, featuring baskets of merchandise compiled by each grade level and the teachers, and other items will begin at 8 p.m.

The baskets created by the school classes include:

a family fun pack featuring tickets to Adventureland, the Science Center of Iowa, Blank Park Zoo, the Iowa Cubs, plus overnight accommodations and gas card;

Preview of auction items Friday night

Webster City Chamber of Commerce members and guests are invited to "Business after Hours" at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday. Guests can preview decorations and auction items for the 2011 "Blossoms for Success" Ball on Saturday. Wine, meat and cheese will be served and there will be a drawing.

Iowa State and University of Iowa baskets featuring gear and clothing items with the logos of each school;

a backyard smoker, wood chips, wooden carving board and gift certificates from Fareway and Hy-Vee;

a tree with gift certificates from North Central Turf and Stony Creek Landscapes;

a bistro wine set with table, two chairs, wine cooler, restaurant gift certificate and a certificate for a wine class;

a Kindle basket;

an iPod basket with accessories and iTune gift cards.

a garden fountain and accessories.

The baskets and other items will be on display prior to the start of the auction, according to organizers.

Throughout the evening, there will be live music and food served along with a cash bar.

Organizers said dance tickets are limited and need to be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available at the door. For tickets or other information about the ball, call the school office at 832-1346.
