Merle Lucas, 95, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Van Diest Medical Center. Funeral services will be at a later date in Illinois.
Merle was born to Homer and Carrie Easter Lucas on July 13, 1915 in Secor, Illinois. He graduated from Deer Creek, Ill. high school. On July 30, 1936, he married Helen Bohanan of Deer Creek. They engaged in farming near Deer Creek. After several years they moved to Webster City to continue farming. Merle and his wife moved back to Illinois in 1974 where they retired.
Helen passed away on Aug. 18, 1990.
Merle married Alice Sanders in 1992 and they resided in Urbandale. In 2008, he went to live at Crestview Care Center.
He is survived by his wife Alice; step-children Raejean (Jim) Jansen, Webster City, Roger (Cindy) Sanders of Colorado; four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Rachel (Hugh) Zeiner of Colorado.
He was succeeding in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
