Funds needed for Honor Flight

February 18, 2011
The Daily Freeman Journal

To the Editor:

I was honored with a Flight to Washington DC on May 1, 2010 to see the World War II Memorial as well as monuments dedicated to other wars, plus a bus trip around the capital city. Two other flights were taken after that with the hopes of two more in 2011 as there are still many signed up from the area.

The thing needed now is money to pay the $600 per veteran for air fare, shirts, caps, tokens, pictures, meals, wheel chairs, water, snacks etc. All guardians (assigned to help veterans) pay their own $600.

I am requesting that all of the WWII veterans that have taken the trip -303 in 2010- organizations, friends and family members, to please show our appreciation to Ron Newsum and his great volunteer staff, by sending a donation so other WWII Veterans can enjoy the same trip we did. Please send before April 1 so I can make a card with the names of donors and present a check with the total donations to the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight before May 1.

I received a donation from a widow and daughter in memory of their husband and father to help another to take his place. Great idea. Please send donations to the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight, P. O. Box 2018, Fort Dodge, IA 50501. Any questions please call me at 576-2934.
