As most of us sat in our warm, cozy homes over the Christmas holiday, there were many hard-working individuals out in the cold making sure that our vital services were not interrupted.
There were the postal carriers who trudged through the snow and ice to deliver packages and mail, the newspaper carriers who made sure the daily news arrived and the street department workers who manned the plows.
Webster City's street crews did an outstanding job clearing the snow from roadways and cleaning up after the Christmas snowfall. It's a tough job and the crews work in some of Iowa's harshest conditions. The Webster City workers also had the additional challenge of repairing a broken main on one of those bitterly cold days.
We are fortunate that our city and county are well prepared for winter weather. Perhaps that's just another perk of living in a small community.
