Meet Tyler Abens
7 1/2 years with the business
Background: I was born and raised in Webster City and graduated from Webster City High School, Class of 1996. I graduated in 1999 from Iowa State University with a degree in Industrial Technology Training and Development. My first career was with Pella Windows in Pella, working in Human Resources and Plant Management. After 3 years, my wife, Sara (Jaycox) and I decided to move back home to Webster City and both joined the family business, Abens Realty. Since becoming licensed 7 years ago, I have obtained my Broker's License, Executive Agent Training, C.R.S. (Certified Residential Specialist) and G.R.I. (Graduate of Real Estate Institute) designations. I also teach continuing education classes for the Iowa Association of Realtors.
Why I do what I do: I really enjoy working with people. Every day is different in real estate working with a wide variety of people as both buyers and sellers. I really enjoy the flexible hours and getting to work with my parents, Keith and Jo Abens, on a daily basis.
What makes my job unique: We live only 35 steps from our office and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What do I do in my spare time: Take weekend camping trips with the Jaycox's or going to our Abens family cabin on Lake Okoboji. I also like golfing and playing the guitar.
How I give back to my community: How I give back to my community: I get involved and volunteer. I am currently the president of WC HYPE, past president of WC Rotary Club, past president of Trinity Lutheran Church and currently serve on the Webster City Chamber board and help with the Webster City Economic Development.
My inspiration: My grandpa, Ray Freeburg, because he was such a positive and enthusiastic person that always told me, "Keep that smile on your face, it makes people wonder what you are up to."
