Why I do what I do: I felt empathy for the elderly as a child when I visited my paralyzed grandma in nursing care for 12 years. I admired her because she never complained. It pleases me to associate with so many wonderful people I have known for years. Southfield's Person Directed Care is a pleasure to promote.
What makes my job unique: The unique part of the job is the daily diversity. One day may mean writing and recording a radio ad and presenting a program to the congregate meal diners. The next day may be writing a newsletter and planning a health fair with local organizations.
How I get away from work: We attend ISU football and basketball games.
I judge foods at county fairs and the Iowa State Fair.
How I give back to my community: I serve on the board of directors for the Webster City Rotary Club, Hamilton County 4-H Foundation, Hamilton County ISU Alumni Association and National Council on Youth Leadership. I am memorial chairman and on the administrative board at Asbury Methodist Church.
My mentor was: My mentors are my parents who taught me a positive work ethic, living with integrity and to never forget that words said are never forgotten. ISU Extension co-workers Lynn Habben and Mae Belle Godown were also mentors.
