Dozens of area Cub Scouts will be ready to race their new car creations Saturday when the annual Webster City Cub Scouts Pine Wood Derby is held at the middle school.

Cubmaster Dave Bergeson said Cub Scouts in Packs 585 and 583 have been working on their derby cars in anticipation of the annual races.

"It's not just the Cub Scouts that can build and race the cars, its also for their siblings, moms, dads, friends and past Cub Scouts," Bergeson said.

He said the event is open to non-Scouts who wish to build their own cars, or race the Cub Scout car, or even race a car built in previous years. This year's events will feature an IROC Series class that has no axle or wheel restrictions, as well as vintage, open class, merchants and a mothers' race.

"Local businesses are encouraged to support our area youth and sponsor a scout for only $20," Bergeson said. "The business name will then be put on the race car."

All sponsor and registration fees will go toward the days expenses, as well as the Cub Scout program in general. Registration forms and fees are due by Friday noon and should be paid to Bergeson. Registration forms are available at J&J Hobby and DJ's Trophies.

To sponsor a car, or to get registration forms, rules, car kits or more information, call Bergeson at 297-1039.
