Doug Getter announced today that he would seek a seat on the Webster City City Council at the January 19, 2010 special election.
Getter, currently the chair of the Webster City Hotel/Motel Tax Board, has been a resident since 2007. Earlier this year, he volunteered his talents to facilitate two community-wide discussions on the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities facing the community.
In making the decision to run, Getter will lend his 24-years of experience in economic, business and entrepreneurial development to address the challenges facing our community.
"The time is right for me to take a more active role in assisting the growth and development of our city," Getter stated.
For the past 12 years, he has been employed as the executive director of the Iowa Biotechnology Association, a position he plans to retire from on June 30, 2010.
Prior to establishing Webster City as his residence, Getter had the opportunity to serve two years on the Urbandale City Council, securing firsthand experience in the administration of city government, working with other members of the Council, the Mayor and City Manager.
In addition, to serving on the Urbandale City Council, he was elected to three-terms on the Urbandale Community School District board of directors, serving two years as board president, and was elected to the board of directors of Heartland Area 11 Education Agency.
Educationally, Getter received a bachelor of science degree from Drake University, majoring in finance. He also secured a master's degree in business administration from Drake. His early years were in Denison where he graduated from the Denison High School.
Getter and his wife, Loween, share a common passion for education, the performing arts (via the Webster City Community Theatre), Trinity Lutheran Church and assisting in shaping the future for their eight grandchildren.
Between now and the January 19, 2010 special election, Getter plans to talk with voters about the issues facing our community.
"Drawing from my skills, experience in economic development and contacts, I believe I can help Webster City achieve a bright future," Getter said.
