JEWELL - South Hamilton displayed its offensive firepower yet again here Tuesday night. But there was just one problem - the Hawks forgot to play defense.

Sandra Samuelson dialed it up from long distance seven times and scored a team-high 23 points for South Hamilton, which made a total of 10 3-pointers and shot 52 percent from the floor overall. But Bondurant-Farrar took advantage of the Hawks' lack of execution on the glass and held an eight-point advantage at the free throw line, as the Blue Jays made the long trek home with an 86-72 victory in tow.

"If you tell me we're going to score 72 points and shoot 52 percent and lose, I'd take that bet,' South Hamilton head coach Kathi Fisher said after her team slipped to 1-1 overall and in the Heart of Iowa Conference. "The difference was the free throw shooting and the rebounding. We just did not crash the boards. We were content with allowing them to get boards on the offensive and defensive end."

Fisher pointed to her team's intensity - or lack of it - as a reason why the Blue Jays held a 24-18 edge on the glass.

"Rebounding is all attitude and desire and (Tuesday night) they just out-hustled us," she said. "Playing at home for the first time, we should have been really intense and aggressive, but instead we played a little timid on the glass."

Samuelson's long-range prowess kept South Hamilton within striking distance and down by just 12, 40-28, at the half.

"Sandra was our life-saver there for a while," Fisher said. "When she's hot she's hot, and she was feeling it."

Brittani Fisher came off the bench to knock down a pair of 3s and she finished with 12 points. Sara Waid and Shannon Hoyle both had nine.

Bondurant-Farrar had four girls score in double figures, led by Bobbi Jo Burroughs' 24. Kaitlyn Peterson poured in 19, Sabrina Hargis 18 and Lindsey Cook 17. The four combined to make 17 of the Blue Jays' 18 free throws.

South Hamilton will be in Alleman to face North Polk on Friday, followed by a rivalry game against Roland-Story on Saturday.
