Police Chief Mike McConnell said farewell to community well-wishers at a reception held in his honor last Thursday.
"It has been a great eight years. There has been a lot of new officers on the force and I have met a lot of friendly people. But I am looking forward to the warmer weather down south," McConnell said.
And warmer it will be. He will be heading to Horizon City, Texas to become the new police chief there. McConnell will have little downtime as he will start his new job on Oct. 26.
He was presented with a plaque to commemorate his years on the force in Webster City.
City Manager Ed Sadler said this of McConnell's departure: "I wish him the best down there. He wanted to go to warmer weather. He put in eight good years here in Webster City."
McConnell's last day was Friday. Pat Segar was appointed acting police chief for the next three or four months while the City looks for a new full-time police chief.
