COLFAX - The South Hamilton volleyball team received a much-needed boost of confidence here Tuesday night and it couldn't have come at a better time.
With the postseason just a week away, the Hawks showed improvement in a number of areas and headed home with a four-game Heart of Iowa Conference victory over Colfax-Mingo, 25-13, 23-25, 25-18, 25-12.
"We needed this for our confidence," South Hamilton head coach Rusty Wintermote said after his squad improved to 6-12 overall and 2-4 in the HOIC heading into Thursday's Senior Night in Jewell against Grandview Park Baptist. "We had been staying close to teams the past couple of weeks, but we were never able to finish any of the games. (Tuesday night) was all about finding the finish."
South Hamilton banged out 24 kills and collected 16 blocks from its front row. Alicen Wintermote had seven kills, while Chelsie Jacobson and Nicole Follmann both finished with five. Wintermote led in blocks with six; Jacobson, Taryn Wicks and Mollie Ullestad all had three.
Jacobson did damage from behind the service line as well with five aces. Sandra Samuelson, Wintermote and Ullestad all cranked out three.
