Little Wall campsites up for renovation
By Lori Berglund — Daily Freeman-Journal EditorHamilton County Conservation Board members Tuesday night reviewed ongoing plans for a major renovation at Little Wall Lake and heard about plans for additional services at Briggs Woods Park.
A renovation of the campground at Little Wall Lake has long been sought by park users and residents in the southern part of the county.
Board members on Tuesday moved forward with the first phase of those renovations, to include 25 revamped campsites. Hamilton County Supervisors have also agreed to $45,000 in funding for this phase of the project.
Future phases will increase the number of campsites from the current 102 to 103. Executive Director Brian Lammers said the sites will be comparable, or perhaps a bit larger, than the campsites at Briggs Woods Park.
The design also takes into account such things as making sure fire pits are away from camper awnings, and providing vehicle parking.
Also on Tuesday night, board members approved an offer to purchase the inventory of Executive Outfitters, a local canoe rental business that has closed.
If accepted, the board will purchase 20 canoes, three kayaks, two trailers, one 14-passenger van and assorted other equipment, including life jackets and oars.
Board President Linda Scheuermann reported that a fund-raising event at Bell's Mill Park had been very successful.
All funds raised from the benefit will be used as matching funds for a grant application to install an improved canoe access at the park.
