HIGHVIEW - One person was sent to Hamilton Hospital with non life-threatening injuries following a head-one or near head-on collision at the junction of Highway 17 and old Highway 20 at Highview Thursday afternoon.

Debra Lee Brookshire, Fort Dodge, was transported to Hamilton Hospital for treatment. No further information was available on her condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, Patrick Henry Hobart, Rockwell City, was apparently not transported for treatment, but may have sustained lesser injuries.

The accident occurred when Hobart was driving a 1999 white Cadillac hearse owned by Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove. Hobart had reportedly stopped on the eastbound shoulder and was attempting to make a U-turn. Brookshire, driving a 1986 Buick Century, was attempting to pass the hearse when Hobart pulled out into the travelled portion and struck the Brookshire vehicle, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Damage was very heavy to each of the vehicles.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Assisting at the scene were the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and Hamilton Hospital ambulance.
