Andy Sowle is Webster City's newest full-time firefighter. However, Sowle is by no means a newcomer to the city or even a newcomer to fighting fires.
Sowle was born and raised in Webster City and graduated from Webster City High School. in 2001. He then went on to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls and studied criminal justice.
Sowle said he was initially interested in working in the law enforcement field. He began volunteering at the Webster City Fire Department in February 2006, thinking he would later make the jump over to the Police Department.
It was a friend, Eric Klein, who is also the assistant chief of the Duncombe Fire Department d, who persuaded Sowle to follow a career in fire fighting instead. Sowle warmed up to the idea and was ultimately hired by the Webster City Fire Department in September.
Sowle's hiring follows the retirement of long-time firefighter Capt. Mark Whaley this fall.
