Jewell council approves short list of repairs
JEWELL - Jewell city councilmen approved repairs to the forced main at the town's lift station when they met recently.
Ed Slattery of Stanley Construction was present to visit with the council about the project. The first phase of the project will be done by town employees. Stanley Construction will complete the second phase of the project at a cost of $65,400. Plans are for the work to be done this fall.
In another property matter, the council discussed problems with the crossing light at the corner of the United Church of Christ on Highway 69. Although it is supposed to be automatic, the light only functions manually now. The council approved purchasing parts to make repairs.
The council also reviewed problems with an increase in discharge from Hawkeye Mink, which is not within the specifications of their pre-treatment agreement. The city clerk will follow up with the company on the matter.
