NEH reviews plans, for building School-to-Work program

BLAIRSBURG - The recent school board meeting at Northeast Hamilton kicked off with congratulations from the board for the coaches and baseball team who have qualified for the state baseball tournament. The board also wished the team great success in tournament play.

In other business, the board reviewed a School to Work/Cooperative Work Experience Program, which would be a partnership with an area business to provide a positive learning experience through classroom work and on-the-job training. The board approved the program.

Regarding the proposed building project at NEH, an updated Debt Service Schedule from Piper Jaffray was reviewed. The Debt Service Schedules were prepared, with the district experiencing no growth from the Statewide Penny Tax.

The resignation of Brennan O'Connor as junior high boys track coach was accepted. The board approved Sally Greenfield to conduct the Graduate Youth Survey. In other personnel matters, the superintendent shared information about a Spanish teacher interview and about a head volleyball coach position.

With the annual school board elections coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 5, board members were reminded of the deadline for returning nomination papers to the district office is 5 p.m. on August 1. Seats currently held by Kathy Pruismann (director district #1) and Jan Heiden (director district #2) are up for re-election. The director will be elected for a three-year term ending in 2011.

In other action, the board okayed a letter of support for the city of Williams to acquire two properties and to abate the delinquent taxes, penalties and cost as well as taxes for the upcoming year to the Hamilton County Board of Supervisors.

Finalizing details for the 2008-09 school year, the board:

Accepted the bid from Anderson-Erickson for milk, Interstate/Wonder for bread, and Star Energy for gasohol, diesel, and propane.

Approved participation in federal programs Title I, Title V, Drug Free School, and the Nutrition Program.

Approved Bruce Mark to represent them as their delegate to the Iowa Association of School Boards delegate assembly and as a member of the legislative action network.

Appointed hearing officers.
