Kennedy opens counseling office in WC

July 7, 2008
By Billie Shelton — Daily Freeman-Journal Writer

If Ann Kennedy was Lucy from the Peanuts comic strip gang, she'd probably hang out a sign reading "The Doctor Is In."

But she's not, so instead Kennedy will soon have a sign that says "Crossroads Counseling" in front of her new Webster City office at 711 Second St. in the Neighborhood Realty building.

In private practice in Ames for 17 years now, Kennedy is opening an additional office in Webster City to offer counseling services to families and individuals age 12 and up. Kennedy, who has a PhD from Iowa State University, has training in short-term, solution-focused counseling.

"I'm interested in problem solving focusing on what the client wants to accomplish," adds Kennedy, who is licensed by the state of Iowa. "I'm here to help people find their own solutions and solve their own problems."

Kennedy has worked with military families and their issues on starting and ending a deployment. She has also counseled couples and worked with grief and loss issues. All services are confidential.

She is accustomed to working with physicians and takes most insurances.

"Generally, it takes just one or two days to get in for an appointment," she noted, adding she keeps flexible hours and is available late afternoons and early evenings. Parking is available in front of the Neighborhood Realty building, which is handicap accessible.
