The Webster City Community School Board voted Monday night to renew the contract of Superintendent Mike Sherwood and also granted a $6,000 wage increase.
Sherwood's new three-year contract will be in effect through the 2010-2011 school year. The salary hike will bring his annual wages to $132,000. The board also increased his in-district mileage to $1,000 and approved an increase in his life insurance policy.
The board met in closed session to conduct Sherwood's evaluation prior to reconvening in open session to vote on the salary and contract package.
Board Secretary Cathi Hildebrand reminded the board that two seats will be on the ballot in the Sept. 9 school board election. Board President Craig Loffredo and Dan Ryherd currently hold the two seats. Hildebrand said persons interested in running for either of the three-year terms may file papers between July 7 and July 31. Nomination papers are available in the district administration office or on line at the secretary of state's website, www.sos.state.ia.us/elections/electioninfo/SchoolElections.html
Personnel
Two staff resignations were received and accepted. Jim Duncan, fifth grade instructor, will be leaving to assume his new duties as Dean of Students at Prairie Valley Schools. Brad Rahmiller, high school social studies instructor, also submitted his resignation.
Contracts were approved for Megan Willem, a Waldorf College graduate, who will be a fifth grade teacher, and Steve Olson, a Webster City graduate, will also teach fifth grade. Rachel Manley was hired to fill a high school special education position first semester only. Sherwood said Manley was committed to a practicum in Africa after the first of the year.
