Thrivent makes additional grant to LSI for tornado, flood recovery

June 27, 2008
The Daily Freeman Journal

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans continues to support the victims of the recent tornadoes and floods in Iowa by supplementing an existing matching gift program for disaster response efforts.

Thrivent will give $1 for every $3 donated to the Lutheran Services in Iowa's (LSI) disaster response program for use in communities affected by the recent storms and floods, matching up to $20,000 for the response effort.

Thrivent's $20,000 pledge is in addition to a $10,000 matching gift incentive given after the May 25 tornado in northeast Iowa. All funds go to the response effort that has been mobilized by LSI, the Iowa affiliate of Lutheran Disaster Response.

LSI's disaster response program is designed to address the unmet needs of residents impacted by these disasters. This is a program that supports the community long after the cleanup phase is completed. In addition to support from an assigned case advocate, typical assistance may include purchasing a bed or other household items, paying an insurance deductible, paying a utility bill, or addressing a wide range of uninsured or underinsured financial losses.

LSI is currently seeking donations to address the extraordinary needs in Iowa communities. Tax-deductible donations can be made to Lutheran Services in Iowa online at: www.lsiowa.org; by mail to: LSI, P.O. Box 848, Waverly, Iowa, 50677; or by phone: 866.584.5293. Please designate your donation with the words "disaster response" or use our online disaster response form. All funds will stay in Iowa to help Iowans.

LSI impacts the lives of tens of thousands of Iowans annually through residential treatment, services to families, home health care and mobility solutions, early childhood programs, adoption/foster care services, refugee resettlement, services for people with disabilities, disaster response initiatives and Barnabas Uplift. LSI serves people of all ages, genders, nationalities, religions, ethnicities and sexual orientations and is affiliated with Lutheran Services in America and three Iowa synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
