4-H receives grant from NRA

June 25, 2008
The Daily Freeman Journal

The Hamilton County 4-H Safety and Education in Shooting Sports (SESS) program was awarded a $590 grant from the National Rifle Association Foundation to purchase competition air rifles.

The Hamilton County 4-H Shooting Sports program currently offers programs for the Rifle/Air Rifle, Shotgun and Black Powder disciplines. The Iowa 4-H Shooting Sports program also offers Archery, and Wildlife Skills, however Hamilton County does not have certified instructors in these disciplines. We are looking for volunteers to become certified instructors so we may offer these areas as well.

The Hamilton County 4-H Shooting Sports Program provides valuable opportunities for helping young people develop self-confidence, personal discipline, responsibility, teamwork, self-esteem, sportsmanship as well as other life skills. The skills required for the responsible use of firearms carry over into many other parts of life.

For more information contact David Brown, County Extension Director or Cheryll Entriken, County 4-H Youth Coordinator at 515-832-9597.
