According to Recreation and Public Grounds Director Kent Harfst, the Boone River Trail may need to be graded again.
"Surveyors were out this past week, and as long as it stays dry, they should be able to start on the re-grading and paving next week," Harfst stated.
Harfst went on to describe some of the other parks, including a washed out road at Kendall Young Park, the piles of silt and sand that city crews have begun cleaning up off the Boone River Trail and at Riverside Park, the loss of some of the large boulders around the Boone River Trail, and a great deal of erosion on Brewer Creek Trail. The city is applying for FEMA money, Harfst stated, and now they will just have to wait and see.
The Commission discussed the possibility of increasing the summer hours due to the weight room expansion. Harfst stated that traffic in the new weight room has practically doubled from this time last year. Currently summer hours for Fuller Hall will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Rule changes for the outdoor pool from last year were reviewed and discussed, and the commission members were pleased with the changes. Harfst stated so far no complaints or problems had come up, and the weather has finally cooperated and activity at the outdoor pool had increased greatly.
