DES MOINES — Mediacom Communications announced recently that continued demand for its digital telephone service now ranks the company as the third largest of more than 150 telephone providers in Iowa.
"We are delighted that so many consumers are adding our phone service as part of a bundled package with digital cable and high speed Internet service," said Pardini. "But even more important is the tremendous savings our customers have gained." Pardini noted that consumers using Mediacom's digital phone service collectively save at least $10 million annually in local and long-distance calling charges.
The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) recently published its 2007 report on the state of competition in Iowa's telecommunications market and concluded that competition has increased significantly over the past three years as a result of cable companies that provide digital voice service. The IUB's report cited a reduction in local phone service connections with incumbent providers and an increase in consumers choosing to connect with new competitors like Mediacom.
"While some of the older, former Bell companies are cutting employee numbers in response to phone subscriber losses, Mediacom continues to grow and hire new employees to keep pace with customer demand," Pardini said. "In Iowa, Mediacom delivers more telecommunication products to communities of all sizes than any other company."
Pardini said the annual $10 million consumer savings is derived from comparisons using the pricing of Mediacom's phone service, which is available for as low as $29.95 per month, and the advertised monthly prices of other phone service providers in the state.
"Our flat-fee, unlimited calling service has really changed the equation for Iowa consumers and it shows that we pass along the savings we gain by leveraging the robust and advanced fiber-optic network Mediacom has built and deployed throughout the state," Pardini said.
Mediacom Communications is the nation's 8th largest cable television company and is one of the leading cable operators focused on serving the smaller cities and towns in the United States.
