Scouts’ honor

-Daily Freeman-Journal photo by Carrie Olson Cubmaster Dave Bergeson emceed the Webster City Pine Wood Derby event on Saturday with Lisa Ely.
March 15, 2010

Be your best. Be prepared. Dave Bergeson teaches both as cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 585 and assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 17. “I have been cubmaster for 10 years and an assistant scout master to scout master Ed Bakken for the past 6 years,” Bergeson said. A native of Webster City, he is also the product manager at Webster City Custom Meats. His interest in scouting didn’t start as a young boy, like it did for many. But it started later in life, with his two sons, John and Luke. “I didn’t hear much about it until my boys came home from school with a flyer about scouting,” he said. “We got hooked when my oldest son started out as a Tiger Cub. Shortly after, about three or four months later, I started getting involved with the program.” With Cub Scouts, Bergeson has been busy with Troop 585 and Troop 583, which have a combined 48 boys on their rosters. “We want to keep both individual packs alive to represent in the Mid-Iowa Council,” he said.
