Area 2014 football schedules

March 9, 2014 - Troy Banning
The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the football schedules for the 2014 and 2015 seasons on Friday. Week 1 of the 2014 season will be Friday, Aug. 29; the IHSAA announced there will be no Week Zero games this fall.

Webster City’s 2014 slate features four home and five road games. Head coach Bob Howard’s squad will play three of their first four away from Lynx Field.

Here’s a look at the Lynx Class 3A slate:

Aug. 29: at Gilbert

Sept. 5: at Clear Lake

Sept. 12: Carroll

Sept. 19: at Algona

Sept. 26: Greene County

Oct. 3: Iowa Falls-Alden

Oct. 10: at Humboldt

Oct. 17: Perry

Oct. 24: at Boone

The good news: Webster City was granted non-district games against its top two priority programs – Clear Lake and Iowa Falls-Alden. The Lynx will also square off with Gilbert for the third consecutive two-year cycle. Howard will also like the fact that the third non-district game against IF-A doesn’t occur in Week 9.

The bad news: Playing away from home in Weeks 1 and 2 is somewhat unorthodox. In the past, the IHSAA has always made those two non-district games a split of home and away. Also, facing Clear Lake and Carroll in back-to-back weeks is somewhat daunting.

South Hamilton’s 2014 1A schedule is as follows:

Aug. 29: Roland-Story

Sept. 5: at West Marshall

Sept. 12: at Madrid

Sept. 19: Manson-Northwest Webster

Sept. 26: Ogden

Oct. 3: at Woodward-Granger

Oct. 10: Woodward Academy

Oct. 17: South Central Calhoun

Oct. 24: at Fort Dodge St. Edmond

The Hawks non-district opponents include Roland-Story, West Marshall and Woodward-Granger – all either current or former Heart of Iowa Conference rivalries.

For years South Hamilton scheduled games against Roland-Story and West Marshall, so this won’t be unfamiliar for the program.

Northeast Hamilton’s 2014 8-man schedule includes:

Aug. 29: at CAL

Sept. 5: Colo-NESCO

Sept. 12: at Adair-Casey

Sept. 19: Ankeny Christian Academy

Sept. 26: at Coon Rapids-Bayard

Oct. 3: East Union

Oct. 10: at Murray

Oct. 17: Guthrie Center

Oct. 24: Glidden-Ralston

Northeast Hamilton will face Iowa Star Conference rivals CAL and Colo-NESCO in non-district contests.
