Celebrate Fall with books that relate to autumn theme

Pascale Bruns, Librarian Kendall Young Library

Fall is almost here!

Does anyone else love autumn as much as I do? Just give me sweatshirt weather, a pretty spot to sit outside in the nice weather, a cat on my lap or a dog at my feet, a good book, and a cup of tea and I am set. I look forward to this time of year every single year, even though the icky winter comes after it. I love going to fall festivals, decorating my house with fall decorations, raking leaves, fall hikes, apple orchards, wineries, and more. I always buy new fall-scented candles so my house can even SMELL like autumn.

Did you know that we have books at the library for all your autumn needs? We have children’s books, gardening books, craft books, cookbooks, and more that relate to autumn time. Here is a list of neat-looking books about this time of year that we have in the library:

“Fallscaping: Extending Your Garden Season Into Autumn” by Nancy J. Ondra. This book is a nonfiction book that includes tips and tricks to make your garden last through autumn.

“Autumn With Family and Friends” is a book that includes more than 200 mouthwatering recipes for crisp autumn days. The chapters include A Bushel of Memories, Chilly-Day Soup Suppers, Quick & Easy Comfort Foods, a Bountiful Family Feast, Favorite Fall Desserts, and more. This would be an excellent book to learn new recipes to share with family over the coming holidays.

• Like quilting? We have a book called “Timbleberries Quilting for Harvest” that includes 20 projects from harvest to Halloween so you can quilt your heart away.

• The book “Crafts for Every Season: Creative Recycling and Handmade Treasures” by Kelly Doust will help you learn how to make homemade gifts, clothes, pillows, scarfs, and fridge magnets without breaking your budget.

• Have your kids join you in your fall crafting by checking out the book “Crafts to Make in the Fall” by Kathy Ross. You will get to learn 29 easy crafts with autumn themes, including a fall tree lapel pin, a crow rod puppet, and a soft sculpture pumpkin.

• We also have many children’s books about autumn including “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn” by Kenard Pack, Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, “George Flies South” by Simon James, “Peppa’s Windy Fall Day” by Barbara Winthrop, “Apples and Pumpkins” by Anne F. Rockwell, and more.

Don’t forget, our Library Card Sign-Up Month contest is still going until the end of September. Any time you check out a book at the check-out desk or the Children’s Department, you will get your name entered into a drawing to win prizes.

Our Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is coming up on Oct. 25-27. We have boxes and boxes of great books for you to search through and hope to see you there.
