A ribbon cutting will be held Tuesday afternoon for the new Adele and Dean Bowden Youth and Family Center, 1611 Prospect St. in Webster City. The center is the new home of Youth and Shelter Services of Hamilton County.

An open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the center, with the ribbon cutting set for 4:15 p.m. The event will also serve as the kickoff of the annual Friends Campaign, according to Jane Adams, center director.

Ground was broken for the new facility in April and the staff moved into the new building on Nov. 14.

“We had six months of fundraising and six months of construction,” Adams said. The capital campaign for the project received a boost from benefactors Adele and Dean Bowden who contributed $150,000 along with property along Superior and Prospect Streets. The center is named for the Bowdens, longtime supporters of the YSS.

YSS had long been located in offices at the corner of Second and Superior Streets, but growing caseloads and the need for more space for staff prompted the build. The new space has offices for the three licensed mental health clinicians, five aftercare staff members, two behavioral health interventionists, Adams and the office manager.

Sitting on the Advisory Board for YSS of Hamilton County are Peggy Arends, Doug Bailey, Kathy Birkestrand, Ron Birkestrand, Barb Franzen, Jean Kayser, Ginny Krieger, Sherry Lambi, Gayle Olson and Thomas McLaughlin.

“Come tour our new facility and see the new spaces and meet our staff. There will be treats as well. We are proud to share this place with the community and welcome everyone,” said YSSHC Coordinator Jane Adams.
