Avenue of Flags committee offers their thanks

To the Editor:

The Avenue of Flags Committee of American Legion Post 191 extends its sincere appreciation for another successful display of our beautiful American flags at Graceland Cemetery. Hopefully, the Fourth of July weekend we’ll bring out 110 flags on Beach and Ohio streets if we have enough volunteers to help.

Thanks to everyone for being careful as you drove through the cemetery. Damage involved three sections with one person reimbursing the legion for the lower section damaged by his car

Here are some of the thank yous with apologies to anyone we may have overlooked:?

Thanks to Custom Meats for continuing to provide storage and their employees for getting the trailers in and out of storage. Thanks to Vern and Mabel Raska for their faithful service of repairing the flags the past 20 years; Welcome aboard to Diane Messerly who has graciously offered to repair our flags. Twenty-five flags needed repairing this year.

Thanks to the Webster City Police Department for their escorts while going down Beach and Ohio streets. Thanks to Graceland Cemetery for providing space for our trailers while the flags were on display. Thanks to the two bus-loads of high school wrestlers and high school advisory classes who helped. Four classes of Sunset School students helped with cap removal before the flags were put up (approximately 600 caps were removed). Ken Christensen, Ron Keigan, Bob Goretska, Gaylord Paine, Wayne Jackson and Melvin Randall all helped with the flag trailers and escorts. Thanks to Boy Scout Troops 17 and 511 and Cub Scout Troops 585 and 583.

Thank you to the Daily Freeman-Journal and KQWC?for media coverage. Lastly, a special thank you to all Legionaires.

Again, thanks to all who were workers, participants or those who were present for some or all of the activities.

The Avenue of Flags depends on great people like we have here in Webster City. Thank you all so very much. God Bless America.

Some gave all, all gave some.

Ron Keigan

Chairman, Avenue of Flags
