Committee member offers thanks for Relay supporters

To the Editor:

On behalf of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Hamilton County, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the residents and businesses of Hamilton County for their generosity and support to our Relay this year. Since this is a county wide event we decided to take Relay on the road this year to Jewell where we received a warm welcome. We want to thank everyone who made the drive to Jewell to attend. We owe a huge thank you to the Jewell community and South Hamilton Schools for their support and the many ways they helped make this event possible. I also want to extend a big thank you to Rick Young, and his wife Janet, for everything they did to make this successful in Jewell. This year 15 teams participated in the event raising approximately $40,000.00 for American Cancer Society’s programs of research, education, advocacy, and patient services. This outstanding support proves the people of Hamilton County and surrounding communities are truly committed to the fight against cancer.

I want to applaud the many cancer survivors who participated in the opening lap and survivor reception. Although the wind did not allow us to line the track with luminaries we were still able to have a very meaningful luminaria ceremony. Fun and games entertained participants and spectators during the evening. We had an extremely successful auction and want to thank all the individuals and buisnesses who contributed auction items. Funds raised from the auction also contribute to the fight against cancer. The evening concluded with a wonderful fireworks display provided by the Williams Lions Club.

We appreciate the generosity of this year’s corporate sponsors:

Spouses of committee members willingly helped in many ways with set-up, tear-down and doing whatever was asked of them during the event.

Again, thank you for supporting the American Cancer Society and helping us to create a world with more birthdays. It’s not too late to turn in any last minute funds raised or too early to become involved in Relay for Life 2014. If you would like to become a Relay volunteer, contact Andrea Hanus at or Bev Huisman at
