Webster City Depot Museum gets a significant boost

Helping current residents understand the history of a community is a vital goal.

Thanks to a generous gift, the Depot Museum in Webster City is on the road to achieving significant renovations and enhancements.

Last month, the Wilson Brewer Historic Parks Committee received a $100,000 donation from Floyd Poole. This important gift was made by Poole on behalf of his aunt, Mabelle Raska, and late uncle, Verner Raska. The Raskas, longtime Webster City residents and business people, lived just across the street from the park for many years.

These new funds will be used to bring in a rail car to the museum for display as well as make improvements to the railroad office inside the depot. Any money remaining will support general renovations.

The Daily Freeman-Journal applauds Poole and his family for their generosity. We hope this donation will stimulate further support for the Depot Museum. This community treasure is an important reminder of how significant railroads were in the development of Webster City and many other Hawkeye State communities.Preserving our heritage
