Congratulations Class of 2016

This is the time of year when thousands of words are written about our high school graduates heading off to face the world. We’ve done our best to give them the education and skills that will allow them to be successful happy people, no matter what path they choose.

The lessons that will count for the most are the ones that weren’t taught in school, but in our homes and in our community. The importance of self-respect, of treating others the way you want to be treated.

The class of 2016 will represent Webster City in the wider world. These young people will carry that responsibility as they take on the challenges of adulthood, college, the workforce or the military service, remembering what they have learned in their hometown.

Our work as their community is not done, however. We owe it to them to make Webster City a place where they will want to come back to live. We owe it to them to continue the economic progress we’ve made over the last four years. We owe it to them to make Webster City a welcoming place, no matter who they become or where their journey takes them. We owe it to them to make Webster City a place where they will want to raise their children, start businesses and start again the process we just completed with this graduating class.

The Daily Freeman-Journal congratulates the class of 2016. Go out and make your mark in the world. Start the next Google, write the next bestseller, create the next masterpiece, be a leader. But when people ask where you’re from, tell them you’re from Webster City, where you learned all the important things.
