Darold Albright, 84, formerly of Webster City

Darold E. Albright, 84 longtime resident and businessman in Iowa City died at his home on Monday, January 29, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday, February 2, 2018, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City, with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am at the church with services following. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Iowa City Hospice. Darold Eugene Albright was born March 31, 1933, in Webster City, Iowa the son of Harold and Mary (Monroe) Albright. Following graduation from Webster City High School he attended Drake University. On June 14, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Niebuhr. They spend the next 64 plus years together building a lifetime of memories. They were blessed with three children, Denise, Dennis and M. Elizabeth. He proudly served his country during the Korean conflict. Upon returning from his service he engaged in a lifelong passion of learning. He received his B.S from Iowa State College, M.A. and PhD from the University of Iowa. He began his teaching career at Monticello High School, becoming Principal in 1963. Moving to Iowa City in 1968 he became involved in the consulting business and in the family owned business, Graphic Printing and Designs, which is now run by his children.

Darold believed not only in his family and country, but his community and his church, as he was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and numerous local civic groups. Including the Iowa City Host Noon Lions Club, being the recipient of the James E. Stronks and Warren Coleman Awards; serving on the boards for Iowa Plus and National I Club. He was awarded the Service to Mankind Award in 1995 from the Iowa City Sertoma Club.

His family include his wife, Marilyn; son and his wife, Dennis and Carolyn Albright; daughter and her husband, M. Elizabeth and Paul Matel; granddaughter, Rachel Elizabeth Matel; brothers-in-laws and their wives, Wilbert and DeLaine Niebuhr, Robert and Sherry Niebuhr, Butch and Denise Niebuhr, and Donald Niebuhr; sister-in-law, Marlyce Hollis; cousin, Elaine Munson and many dear nieces, nephews and extended family.

Darold was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Elizabeth; his parents, his in-laws, Albert “Bert” and Martha Niebuhr; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Lloyd Chaisson; and sisters-in-law, Martha Jean Niebuhr, Marcia Ostlund, Nancy Niebuhr and Beth Niebuhr; brother-in-law, William Hollis
