Leona Keane, 92, of Williams, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City. Visitation will be Monday evening January 16th from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams, Iowa. Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams with Father Rick Dagit officiating and burial will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery near Williams. The Surls Funeral Chapel in Williams is assisting the family.

Leona Mae Keane, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Maubach) Smith, was born September 10, 1924, on the family farm near Blairsburg, Iowa and left this life January 12, 2017 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City, Iowa. She attained the age of 92 years.

Leona graduated from Blairsburg High School in 1943 and was united in marriage to Harold Keane at St. Mary’s Catholic church on June 4, 1945, and had three children. She worked for 7 years at Kramer’s Truck Stop & CafÈ at the Blairsburg corners. She then cooked at the Northeast Hamilton School for 25 years and was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls, breads, cookies and many other things! Harold and Leona farmed in the Blairsburg and Jewell areas until 1989 when they retired and moved to Williams.

Leona was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic church in Williams and enjoyed making quilts at both the church and at home. She was in a neighborhood coffee club and the friendly neighborhood watch patrol as she took care of the park all the time. No one was going to walk off with something while she was on duty!! She loved playing Bingo, going to Prairie Meadows and the dog races.

Leona is survived by her sons, John (Connie) Keane, Robert (Elaine) Keane both of Williams and daughter Janet (Albert) Beem-Boll of Dows, 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren, two brothers Robert (Arliss) Smith of Ellsworth and Harold (Cecilia) Smith of Dunlap; and a sister Bernice Brighton of Ankeny.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her twin sister, Lorene and her son-in-law, Robert Beem.
