Wanted: Chocolate creations

Entries sought for KY?Library festival

There’s still time to enter a delicious chocolate creation for the annual Festival of Chocolate at the Kendall Young Library.

Whether it’s a gooey molten lava cake or moist chocolate brownie, Kendall Young Library is looking for chocolate goodies from area bakers.

The annual Festival of Chocolate is planned for Sunday, Jan. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. Bakers can submit their favorite recipes in four different categories — brownies and bars, confections and candies, cookies, cakes and cupcakes. Library Director Ketta Lubberstedt-Arjes said the only requirement is that the recipe must contain chocolate — chocolate chips, chocolate icing or even white chocolate.

“It could be a chocolate cake with frosting, or maybe scotcheroos or a chocolate cheesecake. It can be as simple or as complicated as the baker desires,” she said.

Participants can enter one or all four categories, but a separate entry form must be used for each entry, Lubberstedt-Arjes said. Frozen desserts are not allowed.

Each participant is asked to submit a supply of six dozen one-inch pieces of the dessert in a disposable container. Cookies and cupcakes, if not made miniature, can be cut into fourths, she suggested.

“A recipe or a list of ingredients is required for each entry, to alert people with food allergies,” she said. Entries are due by Friday, Jan. 18. The dessert may be delivered to the library on the day of the festival between noon and 1 p.m.

Entry forms are available at the library or online at www.kylib.org. For more information about the festival, call 832-9100.

The annual event serves as a Friends of the Library fundraiser. The public is invited to attend and sample some of the chocolate creations. Tickets are available now or at the door for $10. Those who enter desserts receive free admission, Lubberstedt-Arjes said.

The afternoon will also feature entertainment provided by musician Peter Amstalden.

In case of bad weather, a snow date has been set for Feb. 3, Lubberstedt-Arjes said.
