Council to meet tonight

The City Council of Webster City will consider several property matters Monday night during the council’s regular session at 5:30 p.m.

The city has received a residential purchase agreement for Lots 19 and 20 in the Brewer Creek Estates Sixth Addition. The council is expected to authorize Mayor John Hawkins and City Clerk Karyl Bonjour to execute a warranty deed.

The lots are being sold to Shanahan Empire LLC of Ames for $31,990. Closing is slated to take place this week, according to a council memo.

The council members will also consider a resolution accepting and approving the acquisitions of properties at 921 James St., 1421 Second St., and 207 E. Dubuque St. According to a council memo, the city has been dealing with the dwellings at these properties for some time. On Oct. 30, judgements were received allowing the city to take possession of the dilapidated properties. The memo further states that the city could try to sell the homes for rehabilitation or demolish the properties.

A public hearing on the Wilson Brewer Park Cabins dismantling and reconstruction project. A memo to the council said that the cabins are deteriorating and are in need of major renovation. Log cabin restoration experts said dismantling, replacing or repairing some of the logs and then reconstructing the cabins at a location 50 feet east of the existing location would be the best option.

The council will also hear a report from LuAnn Jackson, Hamilton County Veterans Affairs Director, on improvements in front of the Avenue of Flags building.

A request to close the 600 block of Second St. on Nov. 18 for the Christmas in the City event will also be reviewed.
