Annual July 4 foot race set

Runners, walkers invited to be part of Firecracker 5K

The Firecracker 5K road race-walk is planned again for Wednesday, July 4 in Webster City.

The annual race starts and finishes at Twin Parks, 1100 Seneca St., and the course will consist of routes on paved roads and park trails. Organizers said the course is basically flat with one small hill and one water stop.

Race packets are available from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Twin Park. Runners will receive a race t-shirt and post-race refreshments.

Divisions for men and women are: age 11 and younger, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and older. Trophies will be awarded to the overall men’s and women’s race winner as well as the overall master’s (40-plus) men’s and women’s winners. The top three in each age group will receive medals. Door prizes will also be awarded.

A kids fun run for ages 9 and younger will begin at 9 a.m.

The race is a fundraiser for the Iowa Central Cross Country/Track and Field and the Race to Erase Breast Cancer.
