Chamber After Hours to preview annual ball

Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce members will have a chance to preview the  Friends of St. Thomas Ball tonight with a Chamber After Hours event at the St. Thomas Parish Center Friday, May 4.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Those attending will have a chance to view auction items, check out the decorations and enjoy refreshments.

“We’ll be all set up with the auction items and there will be drinks and appetizers,” according to Committee Member Heidi Tesdahl. “They’ll be able to check out the venue and the auction items that night.”

The Friends of St. Thomas Ball returns Saturday, May 5, with a variety of auction items, new games and entertainment.

Organizers have been busy planning the annual event, which serves as St. Thomas Aquinas School’s main fundraiser for the year.

This year will feature a new online auction. To learn more about the online auction, visit the website,

This year’s theme is “A Grand Affair” and will bring an Art Deco flavor to the event. The ball will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature food, drinks and the live and silent auctions.

Webster City Mayor John Hawkins will be the master of ceremonies and Jerry Ose is slated to be auctioneer.

The popular Heads or Tails game will get things started. Other games and activities are also planned, according to organizers.

Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the evening for the grand prize — a $10,000 cash prize. Second prize is $2,000 and third prize is $1,000 in gift cards.

A DJ will provide music for dancing later in the evening.

Tesdahl said tickets can be purchased at www.stthomasball,com and will be available for guests at the door the night of the ball.
