Deadline nears for academy

Local residents still have an opportunity to apply for the 2018 Hamilton County Peace Officers Association’s fourth annual Citizen’s Academy,

The deadline to submit an application is March 2 at 4 p.m.

The academy’s goal is to inform the public about what the county and state law enforcement agencies do as well as understand the issues that law enforcement deal with on a daily basis. Participants will meet local law enforcement and learn the dynamics of the profession and issues they face on a daily basis.

The first class begins Thursday, March 15 at 6 p.m. Classes will continue on Thursdays at 6 p.m. through May 10. Classes will conclude around 9-9:30 p.m. A graduation ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the final academy class.

The first three classes will be held at the Hamilton County Courthouse basement meeting room. The remainders of the academy will be conducted at the Hamilton County Conservation Office at Briggs Woods Park.

Those interested in attending the eight-week series can fill out an application at the Hamilton County Courthouse. There is no cost to attend the academy. Space is limited, individuals must be registered to attend. There is room for 30 attendees.

A criminal history and background check are also both required to attend the course. Participants must be at least 18 years old to be considered for eligibility.

Individuals interested in attending this nine-week course can pick up applications at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office at the Hamilton County Courthouse, 2300 Superior St., Webster City.
