STRATFORD — The community of Stratford welcomed a new business to their main street last month when Touch of Rustic opened its doors.

The cozy, inviting store features home décor, Toploft Clothing and accessories, and hand-crafted signs in simple styles like the name of the store suggests. Custom-made signs can also be ordered

“It’s always been my dream to have my own store,” owner Melissa Julick says about why she decided to go into business when the right building became available on Shakespeare Avenue. It all happened rather quickly, she notes, adding that the Stratford Development Corporation, Inc. assisted her in securing the building for her new business.

“I’ve been doing craft shows, and they were always successful for me, so I thought we’d try having a shop in town.” Adds Julick, who says she has been doing crafts for about three years now.

“I guess this is something that runs in the family,” Julick notes. Her brother makes the signs that are for sale in the shop, and her husband makes the frames. The store also features some vintage wooden furniture pieces that her mother refinishes and offers for sale. The Julick family, which includes children ages 4 and 8, lives near Stratford.

Hours at Touch of Rustic are Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
