Hearing is set for road vacation

The Hamilton County Board of Supervisors set Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 9 a.m. as the date and time for a public hearing on a proposed road vacation.

The hearing will be held during the next board meeting, which was moved from Tuesday, Dec. 26 to Wednesday, Dec. 27 to give staff time to prepare following the holidays.

County Engineer Nicole Stinn said a half-mile stretch of Fowler Avenue south of 290th St. is proposed for vacation.

“We are looking to potentially to vacate Fowler Ave.,” she said. “The county hasn’t done any maintenance on it, from what I’ve been told, since we’ve had it. It’s a dead end.”

Stinn said the county was looking to get it off of the maintenance records and not be responsible for the road anymore.

“At the hearing, we can hear people out about whether we should vacate that road,” she said.

The board also set a date and time for an annexation hearing for drainage district #5 and date and time for the engineers report.

“We had received a petition from three or four landowners in the area,” said Chairman David Young. “This particular district is north and east of Ellsworth.”

The engineers are suggesting that about 200 acres be annexed into this district,” he said. Young said he had talked with some of the landowners and didn’t feel there would be a problem with the project.

“But we do have to have a public hearing and notify all the people in the district,” he said.

The hearing was set for Jan. 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.

In personnel matters, the board reported that Jim Peterson, a motor grader operator with the secondary roads department, will retire effect Dec. 29.

Nathan Bueltel resigned from the Sheriff’s Department. Bailey Bergman was approved for a change of status. She will be a supervisor at the jail.
