Fire in tree causes brief power outage

Electricity restored within an hour

The Webster City Fire Department was called out for a possible pole/tree on fire on Thursday afternoon in the alley of the 1100 block of First Street.

“When we arrived, the tree was on fire because it actually broke at the base and fell into the powerline wires. So we had some live wires that were hot and arcing on the tree,” said Webster City Fire Chief Chuck Stansfield.

According to Stansfield, the line department killed the power to the line and began taking the tree down. As the pieces fell down, the fire department was able to put the fire out. Power was restored to the area within an hour of getting the fire out.

Members of the Webster City Fire Department and city line department responded to the incident.
