Senior Life Solutions, VDMC offer screenings

Lunch and Learn event, open house also planned

During the month of May, which is designated as Mental Health Month, Van Diest Medical Center is partnering with Senior Life Solutions to raise awareness and help fight stigmas, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care for those suffering from mental illness.

Senior Life Solutions is offering free mental health screenings to seniors in need, and providing education to the community on mental health during the month of May. The staff at Senior Life Solutions will host a free Lunch and Learn Event on Thursday, May 25, from 12 to 12:30 p.m. entitled, “Aging and Mental Health: Facts and Fiction.” This program is open to the public and will be in the Cafeteria Conference Room at Van Diest Medical Center. Additionally, the staff at Senior Life Solutions will be hosting an Open House to follow the Lunch and Learn Presentation on Thursday, May 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the program space located inside the Main (west) Entrance to the hospital. Area residents are invited and encouraged to stop by the program space, meet the staff, learn more about the program and enjoy refreshments.

Senior Life Solutions is an intensive outpatient group therapy program, designed to meet the unique needs of older adults over the age of 65 struggling with the challenges often related to aging. Individuals may be suffering from depression and/or anxiety if they are experiencing any of the following:

• Recent traumatic event

• Loss of a loved one

• Loneliness

• Difficulty sleeping

• Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities

• Change in appetite

• Loss of energy

• Sadness or hopelessness
